I love Liberty. I remember interviewing for a Visual Merchandising work experience thing as soon as I got to London… and fell in love with the department store. I didn’t get it, which is fine because I wasn’t a Visual Major anyway… and I ended up at Elle Girl UK and Sugar Magazine (ah my first taste of magazine promotions) which is what I wanted to do in the first place.
At ANY rate, it didn’t stop me from going to Liberty and just browsing… and walking Carnaby St. The old architecture and layout, mixed with the contemporary designers and Liberty prints… it was just SO lovely. I would go when I needed an escape from the boy flatmates… too much testosterone in the flat sometimes. A girl’s gotta have an escape, and if I may borrow a line from Clueless “I had to find sanctuary in a place where I could gather my thoughts and regain my strength…”
(Oh, and Selfridges of course… I would hang at Selfridges on my lunch because it was close to the HFUK office. I actually got my nose pierced at Selfridges during lunch once… ha.)
