LA Riots DJ, Daniel Ledisko, spun at Le Poisson Rouge last night. I thought, who better to take out to Poisson Rouge for a dance party than a frenchman and a gay. So Greg and Trystan came with me to check out the set, where I ran into Kris… who I suppose had the same idea since she brought 2 boys as well, one of whom was also a frenchman.
We spent most of the night going back and forth from hanging out in the green room, to going out to the dance floor. Bumped into Sean Krames (Cobra Krames), who I hadn’t seen in a while, and Terry (Santogold’s drummer aka Prince Terrence), who was just hanging before going to a party in BK that started at 4 AM. A little backstage mingling (i love meeting new interesting people) and debauchery- cookies and dried mangos involved. Amazing.
Greg and I were discussing how Le Poisson Rouge is really becoming one of the spots to go for good electronic music. It doesn’t attract the douchebaggery so much as Webster Hall does and it has a good vibe. Our little dance crew was great… with Kris and I being regulars to the scene, Trystan and the french just being badass dancers… you could’ve bottled up our energy and sold it as some kind of dance potion.
Of course it didn’t hurt that Daniel was killing it. After his set I was talking to him about mutual friends’ DJ group Shark Attack and how I really want to get them booked here. It then led to the discussion of how difficult it is for West Coast DJ’s to break it into New York. He mentioned how LA Riots are pretty big over there, but he doesn’t feel like people really know them here. I don’t know how true that statement is. Daniel is a great DJ- as he says himself, he’s not really that showy when he spins. I think that’s one of his merits… he just straight up DJ’s and people love his music.
