Alright GBH boys… you can have your lead singer of The Asteroids Galaxy Tour… she’s cute, stylish, and the show was awesome. After seeing them play, I’ve developed a band member crushes on the saxophone player, the drummer, and the keyboardist/guitar player (there was something about his where’s waldo hat, white henley, suspenders, and scruff/mustache… hot).
But seriously though. I have to give it to Tom who had been obsessing over them and had been trying to get me into the band. They were amazing live… dance-y, which is all I ever really ask. They had a good energy, great stage presence…and I mean c’mon… a saxophone player and a trumpet player. They reminded me a little bit of a Danish No Doubt, except more kitschy and badass. (photos by Nicky Digital as soon as he posts them)
I could’ve stayed a little longer at The Studio… tried to hang out with the band and such. I kind of felt like I lost my edge because I really made no effort to say anything to the band after the show. The hot sax player was standing right next to me at one point and I just continued on with my texting. My friend Sean and I checked out the main room a little bit after running into Trystan… I hate Webster Hall… seriously… if it wasn’t for The Studio you wouldn’t ever catch me there…
Sauntered over to Robot Rock- another GBH party… since my friend Morsy was DJing. He was looking quite dapper dressed in all white- white jeans, white shirt, white headphones. The music was good, the crowd was meh. I think Sean and I spent most of our time counting the Party Casualties (some girl fell off the platform, some guy in crutches.. etc). I got an IM from Morsy today that says it all-
morsymorsymorsy: ha since when robot rock has yuppies
me: I KNOWWWW DUDE!
morsymorsymorsy: yet again i couldnt go all out electro
Long story short- I ended up at Lit where I felt slightly disappointed over that fact that there wasn’t even a “Hey guys… good show.” exchange between me and the band. But lo and behold. The Universe must love me… because as 3:45 rolled around at Lit and I was running around the basement, I knocked over someone’s beer. And that someone happened to be the trumpet player from Asteroids Galaxy Tour. I apologized profusely, got him another, talked to him for a bit and ran upstairs to get myself another drink. 5 Minutes later I find myself getting a drink bought for me by their A&R guy. He introduced me to Lars, who plays bass and is apparently the genius songwriter for the band… as well as to Sven, the hot sax player. There was mention of me being at the show, to which his response was “I know, I saw you there.”
Passed up hanging out with them for the remainder of the night… which I’m sure would have been fun. But I decided to stick by my nonboyfriend at Lit.
Yes. That is a big deal. I bailed on partying with a band for a boy… *sigh*
They’ll be around (the bend)…If I end up going to SXSW I’ll see them there…
