Behind my first 8tracks mix:

The other day it was rainy and I was feeling a bit down. One of those days where anxiety had gotten the best of me and my heart felt a little heavy.  On days like those I tend to just stay in and lay on my couch or in my bed with the covers over my head and listen to music that calms me and helps me escape.  This is basically the mix of songs that I listen to.

I titled the mix Lay Down for that reason, but also because the first track is the song Lay Down by a now defunct band from San Diego called First Wave Hello.  Not only do the songs’ sound and lyrics have a calming effect on me, but certain aspects of the tracks and the bands have a personal meaning that doubles the calming.

Track List-

  1. First Wave Hello- Lay Down (one of the members of this band is a very good friend of mine.  Ever so often I just randomly think about him and it just instantly puts a smile on my face & makes me feel better)
  2. Minus the Bear- Pachuca Sunrise (one of those “takes me back” songs… puts me in a place when I was listening to this band a lot, and things were just good for me)
  3. Kleerup/Lykke Li- Until We Bleed (Lykke Li… enough said. and electro beat to this song is just so good)
  4. In Cadeo- Communist Lecture (my friend Pete drums in this band… he used to be my drum instructor so there’s just something about his playing in these songs that gives it a good vibe for me + Jared’s voice is soothing)
  5. First Wave Hello- Healthy Amount of Self Loathing
  6. Maria Taylor- Leap Year (anything by Maria Taylor and Azure Ray is a guaranteed chill out)
  7. In Cadeo- This Side the Grave
  8. Nine Inch Nails- Something I Can Never Have (Plump DJ’s Mix) (Trent Reznor’s voice.  Enough Said.)
