Nick is one of my favorite people ever.  You always know that you’ll have a great time at the sake bar whenever he’s working (it was a monday ritual for my friend kevin and I to visit Nick at the Sake Bar before kevin left NY), or that you’ll have an awesome dance party wherever he’s spinning.  Always so chill and always so fun.  I downloaded this mix that he made back in april, and I constantly play it to this day.
When you read Nick’s “Behind the Mixtape” you really get a better sense of the vibe he is trying to resonate
behind the music:I start everyday with a coffee from 9th street espresso in the east village. Then i go out on the bench, smoke some cigarettes and collect my thoughts to make the day go by exactly how i want it. I realized that it was time for me to go home and blast out a mix. It had been a while since i made one and i was feeling really inspired by quite a bit of music lately. Sometimes you realize that alot of times djing you have to completely take whats important to you out of the equation and satisfy the crowd. I had the idea to make a mix that i would want to hear in 2 situations. the first being on my skateboard rolling thru new york right when the sun starts to go down and the second being 330am til 415 when every decides to open their minds and listen to things that aren’t considered normal.  I finished this up, put on my headphones and skated around, then rolled by 647 broadway which was the site of the  original loft and kinda hoped that maybe in 2008 i can help carry some of that spirit on.  To make things full circle my long time 9th street confidant joey rubin heard the mix and was interested in making it a taste exclusive. Obviously i happily obliged since its a company i support and believe in strongly. We plan to do this monthly.anyways. just listen, thats all that matters. Please support the artists on this mix and in my eyes they are all doing things that people should be hearing whether the music is old or new.
And really though… how can you go wrong when you start a mix with Hercules and Love Affair’s Blind.
