My blog was designed by the awesome Jacob Bijani.

And this is where it gets a little personal…

I don’t often write flourishing posts that delve deep into the small details and actions in my life.  I tend to just live it and maybe post some auxiliary notes- what I’m listening to, the shoes I’m wearing, what party I might go to.  It gives people a general idea of what I’m about without really letting anyone in.

Anyway, if anyone follows Jacob he’ll occasionally post quirky things I say or do that, for people who don’t know me, make me sound like a 5 year old… or just really stupid.  It had me thinking about the whole idea of perception, and I thought I’d explain myself.

While I’m definitely not the latter, I suppose there is a bit of truth to the acting like a 5 year old thing.  The way I see it is that people spend most of their childhood wishing they were grownups.  Nothing has to be taken that seriously. Most grown ups just forget what it’s like to be a kid… they get drowned in their work and what society expects of them.

In times like these with the bad economy, lack of jobs,  and even surviving your twenties, sometimes being lighthearted and fun and saying or doing silly things can make things a little bit brighter.  And it’s contagious too.  Impromptu dance parties, eating your dinner on a bubble gum pink plate, inviting every single person you meet to your birthday party… it might seem ridiculous but the laughs and the smiles and putting people in a better mood is well worth it.  It doesn’t make me less of an adult… I do the meetings, working, planning thing… but there are ways to be successful and still be fun.

Even Robert Greene recognizes it in his book The Art of Seduction… naming ‘The Natural’ as a seductive character.  One who embodies childlike qualities that mystifies people and makes them lovable.  I fly by the seat of my pants, think of crazy ideas, I don’t follow the norm (whatever that means).  I’m blessed to have someone like Jacob and friends like Ronen who embrace adventure and fun and being awesome… and an 8 year old sister who makes me remember what being a kid is like.

While I understand that there will always be people out there who don’t get me… I think that more people should try to take a little bit of time to stop acting their age and start acting their shoe size… to remember what it’s like to get so excited over the smallest things you can’t help but smile uncontrollably and jump up and down. Seriously. :)

oh and for the record… I graduated 6th in my HS class and Summa Cum Laude in college, so if you had an idea of me being an airhead… or even just average… think again
